Can someone please give me some suggestions, I am a volunteer for a conference tomarrow, and last minute someone cancelled so I am now a facilitator for the 8th grade students and I need to keep them busy for 1 hour with some activities. They are being recognized for young author's award ceremony so something that has to do with reading and books would be good, or just something interesting and fun for 12-13 year olds to do to help them get to know each other better and have fun, thanks!!!!

  1. pick a short documentary and make them into about 4 teams and have each group write a short sumary about 2 paraghraps wich ever team has the best each student[in the wing group] will get a prize the dosumentaru should be about 45 minutes and they get 15 minutes for the sumaary

  2. go for some funny questions and answers...u can have it from my profile...no no bache bigad jayenge...lolz...find some funny facts...n that will do ur job i guess

  3. play games with them like quiz games which will show their GK&IQ level and also devide them in teams tht will make them play it more interestingly.

  4. I'll give an address u may ask from him

    aman28@verizon.net

  5. I remember in my creative writing class there was an activity that we would do where One person would start a story, write a paragraph or a few sentences, then pass to the next person to add their part to it. once it went around the room once or twice (depending on how many kids there are) someone would read it. The stories get pretty wild. I thought it was a lot of fun.

  6. Bring some yarn.

Have them sit or stand in a circle, you start saying your name and (as we're talking young authors) your favourite book ever - a few sentences why you love it. Then throw the ball of yarn to one of the kids, he/she states their name, favourite book and reasons for loving it, then throw the ball to the next kid.

The yarn will form a net and every kid will have to remember who he/she got the yarn from and who he/she threw it to. As soon as the last kid introduced him- or herself, he/she needs to throw the yarn back to the kid he/she got it from, trying to remember the name.

This way, you first build up a yarn-"network", then work your way back through every kid. Helps remembering names, a bit of booktalk (matches the days's theme) and is fun because you bet there'll be some mix-ups throwing the yarn. ;)

  7. have them make up a name for thereselves ex. nice nick, super sally, energetic elise.  and play memory the first kid says his name then the next kid says the kids before names and his own new name its fun.

  8. Type up a list of things like :

find someone who has been to Canada

Find someone who has ridden on a motorcycle

find someone who has a lizard for a pet

Then let the kids wander around and ask people things and have a prize for the person who gets the most, second most, third etc.

if you have enough of them it takes quite a while.
