Long story short. I lived in a house with my mom. She wanted me to pay her 200 dollars a month of rent every month, so I did. Then this month she got mad at me and wanted me to move out. She gave me a 5 day notice, but since it was a verbal contract that was on a month to month basis. I saw that she had to give me a 30 day notice, according to my states law. So I continued to stay then unexpectedly she had the cops come and they made me leave. They said if I wouldn't I would go to jail. My question is since I was illegally forced to leave my house, what can I do? Who should I report this to? Should I also report the cops? I live in Niles IL, Cook County. Only serious answers, I really need help on this.

  1. I think you need to figure out what your goal is.

do you really want a court to tell your mother she cant evict you, then move back in with her?

Whether or not your mother acted legally, (much less morally and ethically as your mother), is not the issue. Even if you were able to force her to take you back in, she can merely wait 30 days, and kick you out again.

Time to move on with your life.

  2. You are trespassing if you are asked to leave the property and don't.

I don't your verbal contract will stand up in court unless your mother openly admits to it in court.  You could try to take it to small claims court, but it will probably will be thrown out.

  3. call a local attorney.

    duh.

I am sure there is more to the story then you are letting on - either you didn't pay or there is some other conflict.

in any case, you would be gone in a month, so you might as well get started on the rest of your life.

you really want to move back there?

then you are going to both need some therapy in order to be able to resolve the issues together or alone.
