Need help! Inactive Redcap Oranda goldfish in 15 gallon tank!?

My small Redcap Oranda goldfish had a little bit of finrot, which is recovering. However, he seems to be inactive for a while, then active, then inactive, etc... While he is inactive, he just sits on the gravel, and looks almost dead, then he starts moving a bit. He is eating well... I am really confused.

  1. Could be ammonia problems, have you tested your water recently? How often do you change your water? Goldfish are very dirty fish, they make a lot of ammonia and p**p. So they need weekly gravel vacs and water changes (about 25%). If that doesn't fix it, the listlessness of your fish makes me think internal parasites. There is medicated food available to treat that. But in my experience they don't like it so soaking food in the medication (Metronidazole) is easier, if you can find that medication.

    EDIT:

Second thought, probably is an ammonia problem depending on what you are treating with. Your antibiotic could have killed the beneficial bacteria.
