Need help/advice/tips for washing my first brand new black car?

Ok, so I just got a black 2009 Maxima, I know it's hard to keep clean becuase of the black finish but I don't mind it. I want to really keep this car clean and protected and I was wondering...

1.) What is the best type of soap to use?

2.) What types of towels, cloths, or mits should I use for washing and drying?

3.) What is the best process for washing the car? I was going to just rince it off with water, wash it off with soap, top half first then bottom half, then use Mr. Clean Autodry to dry.

4.) How often should I wax the car and what type of wax should I use?

If you could just answer any or all of these questions I would really appreciate it, and if you have any other tips or advice please let me know, thanks in advance.

  1. The best wax is no wax.

Use a pure liquid acrylic paint conditioner. Wax will build, cloud and  cover up your factory finish with swirl marks, wax residue and scratches. Your Shiny jet black car will become a dull oxidized black car.

That finish won't last if you use old fashion wax on a modern acrylic finish.

Use only liquid VaporWax APC. It is designed as a clear liquid non abrasive conditioner specifically for the newer harder automotive acrylic paints. It will allow you to keep that showroom shine for years because it does not cover or alter the original finish.

  2. Your on the right track.  Mothers pearl wax is a good one to use its safe for all clear coats and gives a very good shine.  Use very soft cloths you can get them at your local store.  Be careful of the soap you use some soaps can be harmful to the clear coat.  You can go to your local store and they have a wide variety of soaps that are safe for clear coats

  3. Acrylic paint conditioners surpass wax on all levels especially when it comes to black acrylic paint.

Never put wax on a black car with acrylic paint.

It will wear down the factory shine and leave the paint dull beneath the wax.

Avoid soap as much as you can, never use polish or wax and all you need to keep your car looking new is a waterless liquid acrylic paint conditioner

  4. 1. get biodegradable soap

    2. microfiber

    3. dont use the Mr. Clean Autodry, just wash it traditionally

    4. if you received the extra protected wax job from the factory i would wait  to wax your car.  if not then i would wax it every 3-6 months with a wet wax, i prefer mothers.

take your time enjoy it, definately get some tire/wheel shine, makes a big difference.  as far the Mr. Clean auto dry and all other gimmick products, just stick to the classics, you know they work!

  5. My son owns a black Corvette (his BABY).. :)  He buys a Mr. Clean kit that the hose hooks onto and the water is conditioned as it comes out, it keeps your car from getting water spots from your regular water.

Not sure what it's called, sorry, but he picks it up at Walmart so I'm sure you can find one.  It does really make the car clean up nice without any white spots.

He uses Turtle wax with an electric buffer (also walmart), and works in sections so he can get totally done before it hardens, turns out really nice.

  6. Turtle Wax makes a good car wash product.

I would wash with a mirco fiber sponage. You can get them at Walmart,K-mart Etc.

To dry the car a synthectic chamois will work just fine.

I would wax every 3 to 4 washes. Most wax on the market today is about as good as any.
