I live in Chicago most of the year, have IL Driver's License and Insurance. My dealer will price the lease for Michigan taxes by showing some bills in my name sent to Michigan. Will I be able to get Michigan plates based on this information?

  1. Sales tax goes with the city/county the vehicle is being sold in.

  2. Kizzy above me is wrong.  If you are not a resident of the state/county/ city that you buy the car in, you must pay any taxes to your state/county/city of residence. People who live near a state line know this all too well.

I'm not sure that you can/should do this.  Each of us has a "permanent, legal residence".  If yours is in Chicago, merely showing some bills in your name sent to Michigan probably won't work because that is not your permanent legal residence.  I believe since you have an Illinois drivers license and insurance, red flags will pop up all over the place if you try this.
