Ok, I might sound crazy, but I seriously need to be able to build some sort of particle beam or sonic screwdriver or something similar to the gadgets in Doctor Who, but they really do what they are intended to do. I'm sorry, but you won't get paid, well, if we actually get this thing to work and if it ever makes money, you'll get paid then. I don't care about the money, you can have it all for all I care. I just need to have some sort of weaponry similar to the things in Doctor Who that can actually work properly by the year 2012. Don't ask me why, I just need to. If you think you can help me, leave your email address and your reply.

  1. I May know where I can get my hands on a mountain top lair, an army of mutants to guard it, and a nice selection of henchmen (about 25% of whom are heterosexual). I may also know where I can lay my hands on significant quantities of cash and electronic equippment.

All that I ask in return is that you swear an oath of allegiance to my new world order, and that you avoid associating with heroes or super spies.

It would be advantageous if you had no special attachment to the polar ice caps, or famous but strategically irrelevant international landmarks.

  2. I used to have one but I can't remember where I left it.

To make do for the time being, a CRT from an old-style television or computer monitor is a very effective particle beam accelerator, albeit not very portable.

As it happens I am stock-piling these for the same reason you are (don't worry... I won't tell..).  I'd be pleased to collaborate with you to get them down to sonic-screwdriver size*.

*Actually, subminiature CRTs used to be made for the viewfinders in the old video cameras.  Sadly, these are not very powerful for use as particle beam weapons....

  3. You don't suppose that the end of the Myan calender is related to the coming of the Darleks?  In which case money may be of little value.

Practical particle beams are already being developed. See link.

The sonic screwdriver might be an interesting project.

I'll get to work on it and let you know when it is finished.

You can be my first customer.
