I need one that will run audio from my tv/sat/dvr and my dvd player, decent quality, inexpensive. I plan on getting an HDTV and keep reading of unsatisfactory speakers in them to I am looking to use a home theater instead. My room is roughly 20x20.

  1. Will there tons of decent packages. Whats your budget?

  2. No offense to the bose fan, but Bose is overpriced c**p. The specs tell the story. They just have a HUGE advertising budget and have brainwashed people in general. Some of the best surround systems are Much less expensive than you might think, sound better than Bose at a fraction of the cost. If you like bass, be sure to get a "powered" sub-woofer. A "matched" system will always be better than one cobbled together with various components of different brands.

Yamaha, JBL, Kenwood, Panasonic, All have reasonably priced systems. A room your size ought not to require more Than 100 watts if the sub is powered. 200 if not. If you don't mind the hassle, and can afford it. but two or three systems, try them all out, keep the one you like best, and return the others for refund. Good luck!

  3. Sony has two really nice systems. I will put the links in the source section.

  4. I am a big fan of BOSE. It can be expensive but best buy is a pretty awesome store and you will probably be able to find it a little cheaper there. Also you can get the reward zone card and get money back from it!

  5. You won't be able to find Bose at a cheaper price at Best Buy.  Bose has a contract with every retailer that they are not allowed to discount their products without prior approval, usually a Bose event or some such.  Also, Best Buy is not allowed to sell "open item" Bose products either.  So if a customer bought any Bose product at Best Buy, opened it; then returned it to Best Buy, Best Buy would have to return the product back to Bose.  This all goes back to Bose wanting to keep up with their "image".

As far as a good system for you, at $100 to $200 range you would look into a HTIB system, Home Theater in a Box.  The only problem you would run into is that the sound quality wouldn't be very good and wouldn't get very loud, especially being in a 20x20 room.  I would recommend buying one component at a time and just keep adding on as you have the money.  Starting with a decent receiver that has enough connections for you and any future add ons and a pair of decent front speakers.  Then add the center channel and surround speakers then finally a powered subwoofer.  Anyway, that's just my opinion.  If I'm gonna spend the money then I'm gonna get the best that I can, even if it means that I have to wait a little longer.  Also, if you have a Fry's Electronics near you, they offer plenty of home theater packages at a decent price and they aren't too shabby either.  They do quite a bit of Onkyo packages which are good bargains.  Good Luck to you!
