My computer has a DVI-I input and my TV has a DVI-D and VGA inputs. I prefer to use DVI, but the connectors are different. Are there any adapters that will fix this?

  1. Typically a DVI connector is a DVI connector (all the same size).  What you actually get through the wire depends on which pins have video out, cable type (which pins are connected), and capabilities of display.  Computer DVI video is typically all purpose (digital or analog).  So if your TV really is DVI, a DVI-D or DVD-I cable should work.

If you have a much smaller digital connection on your TV then a DVI to HDMI cable should work best (I use that between up converting DVD player and HDTV).  Or if your TV has VGA, a DVI to VGA adapter or cable should work (usually adapter is included if DVI/VGA video card was purchased separately).  I have not tried that, but my laptop VGA plays standard DVD's very sharp at the native resolution of my 40" 1366x768 LCD TV.

  2. Well, if you are using an HDTV, which I presume you are, because you insist on using DVI, There is a link below for a DVI to HDMI adapter.

Hopefully, this will fix your problem

  3. A cable with DVI-D connectors on both ends will work. If your computer outputs DVI-A on the DVI-I connector, besides DVI-D, you can also use an DVI-A to VGA cable.
