Hi - I just purchased a Samsung 650 LCD tv, a Sony Playstion 3, and an Onkyio 7.1 surround system. I also have the HD cable box (from Charter). I am at a complete loss on how to set all this up. Right now I just have the cable company wire coming out of my wall. I believe everything is HDMI compatible. Could someone please tell me how to connect all this together? Much appreciated.

  1. First call your cable company and see if the HDMI port works on their Set-Top Box, even though the box may have an HDMI port, dosen't mean the programming on the box supports it, if so you can use HDMI to the television in place of component, which I will be describing

First, the PS3, If your receiver had has HDMI connectivity, just connect the PS3 to the receiver with an HDMI cable (do the same with your STB if it is compatible with HDMI), then take the HDMI out on the receiver and connect it to your television, if both the STB and the PS3 are connected to the receiver, the receiver will be used as your splitter for both audio and video, HDMI will give you the full 7.1 surround sound

If your STB is not compatible with HDMI, keep the PS3 connected the same way as explained above, but take a component cable (video only needed, so the red/green/blue wires) and connect it from your STB to your television, then take Digital Optical or Digital Coax and connect the STB to the receiver, keep in mind though, since you are not using HDMI in this case, you will only get 5.1 surround sound (true 7.1 requires HDMI), but there are no cable channels that support 7.1 that I know of, so you wouldn't be missing much
