Need help in trying to connect my hdtv to the items below. I would like to get surround sound working on everything.

Currently right now i have connected all 3 hdmi cables connected to each device. dvd player to hdtv, saltellite receiver to hdtv, and ps3 to hdtv.

One problem i have already encountered when i turn on the dvd player the sound cuts off of the hdtv when im watching satellite tv.

When i turn off dvd player the sound comes back on. Havent even touched the ps3 yet. Can someone help me with this or tell me what im doing wrong.

  1. Your "Surround Sound" system assumes you want him to take care of the audio when playing a DVD. So when you fire him up - he tells the TV to disable his internal speakers.

Does the TV have an optical output you can feed into the "system"? If so - the TV will usually route things to the "system" so you get 5.1 from all devices.

Or check the setup menu on the "system" to see if you can do "audio pass-through" so it wont turn off the TV speakers.
