Need help decorating apartmentmy carpet is a slightly darker brown...?

i was thinking a very deep red, almost maroon, to go with my living room and kitchen, my couch is a kramfors ikea couch in dark brown and silver legs, i have a 37 inch flat panel currently sitting on the floor my kitchen table and chairs are both a rich dark brown. i currenty have dark red fabric place mats and a set of dark brown stoneware on the mats......this is pretty much it....any suggestions?

I would go with something light on the walls. That way the room feels light, spacious, and your furniture will be the focus. If you have too many similar colors it will all just blend into one another and look like a big brownish blob. You can keep the brown furniture and red accents, but definitely do a cream or beige on the walls! Hope that helps!

That's a lot of darks!  Why not a brighter red, sort of a terra cotta/ red...goes great with browns.
