  1. I'm not entirely sure what you're asking but...

    Mutation causes genetic variation because it changes a gene so it is no longer expressed the way it was originally (in the organism with the mutation and ancestors).  The mutation can be harmful or helpful.  If it's helpful, that organism is 'more fit' and the trait may spread --  that increases genetic variation.

    in sexual recombination, two s*x cells with different sets of chromosomes are combined making a new genetic mix(theoretically, the same combination could occur more than once but it's very improbable)
