Need help fast! IPhone in recovery mode and I cant restore it?

Question

I was updating my iPhone ealier, but my iTunes froze in the middle of the update. Now, my phone has gone into recovery mode and the only thing that displays is the itunes icon and the wire. ITunes says that I have to restore it to get out of recovery mode, but the backup of my stuff isn't working and if I recover it, I'll loose all my songs...and i'll loose a lot of money. Is there anything else I can do?
