  1. I take it you're in the USA by the spelling of theater, the link below is for just about the best Sony are doing at the moment, the second is a UK link to the same.

  2. Check out Denon and Yamaha. Sony never made a good audio product, in my opinion. They did make a great tv at one point but I think the other name brands have caught up and surpassed them in some cases.

Best buy and Circuit City sell Denon. Best buy sells yamaha also so I would start there. You can compare the Sony receivers to bith the Denon and Yamahas. Make sure you pick the receivers up, the extra weight in the Denon and Yamahas is due to better heat sinks and larger capacitors. I think you'll be surprised. Onkyo is also a very good brand.

Try to stay away from HTIBs. You get much better sound when you take a receiver and match it with a better pair of speakers. For example, Denon is a receiver maker, they don't make a great speaker.

Cambridge soundworks has lower priced (but very good) speakers and speaker/reciever combos if price is a factor.

I've heard these speakers and they sound very good for the $

  3. Sony makes some good TV's and DVD players.

The only good AV receiver made by Sony is the "ES" series. All the others are .. only so-so quality.

Speakers by sony are really crappy.

Look into the new Onkyo receivers TX-505, 605, 705. A lot of features for good prices.

Take a CD you like and go listen to speakers from companies that only make speakers.

While I will sometimes recommend Yamaha or Dennon systems, the "box" systems from Sony, Samsung, Phillips - are heartbreak.

We get 2-3 posters here a week crying about how these 'el-cheepo' systems wont do anything but play standard def DVD's. Cannot hook up a BluRay, PS3, HD cable box ,etc to them.  But newbies look at the $300 price tag and think they are safe because they are made by "Sony/Samsung/Phillips/Westinghouse".

Take our advice: get the budget equipment, but from companies who have the good reputation and you will have a great system.

  4. First you need a bass on what you want to spend. I wouldnt recomend Sony personally. Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha, Onkyo,Denon,NAD, Integra, Outlaw audio. Test drive this stuff first. They all sound different and so do speakers. The more homework you do the happier you'll be with your puchase. Ask questions at the HT shop.Just so you know. When buying online you dont always get full warranty. Be carefull.
