  1. The best financial adviser on the planet is Dave Ramsey.  Go to http//www.daveramsey.com and listen to his radio show. You can call in an ask a question.  It doesn't cost a dime to listen to the radio and if you don't like his advice. You can turn it off.

  2. Try a major firm such as Morgan Stanley, or discount broker like Schwab.

    Check out advisors

  3. First congratulations for having the wisdom and foresight to realize you need some expert advice! Too many people put this off.

I had to do a little research for this one, as you are in the states.

You can  use the following website to find a financial planner in your city: http://www.fpanet.org/plannersearch/cust...

I found the above site as a link from the Financial Planning Association of New York: http://www.fpanet.org/plannersearch/cust...

You will want to see a fee only financial planner. Fee only financial planners do not profit from selling you financial products, and as such are able to offer independent advice tailored to YOUR situation.

The financial planner will ask you questions about your current financial situation, as well as your hopes and dreams for the future. This may include buying/paying off a home, investing for retirement (and they can advise you as to WHERE to put your money!), or saving for a rainy day.

    Good luck!
