  1. He's gorgeous. I have Birmans & the breeder recommends Dawn dish soap of all things. Works great at degreasing. Dilute it 50/50 with water & rinse about 3 times to get every speck of soap out. PS they use Dawn for show cats.

  2. I always buy our cat and dog shampoos from the vets office.

That way you know what your getting, it always does a good job and you can purchase both shampoos for flea baths or shampoo for general maintenance type baths.

I also like the added benefit that my vet knows what we're using on the pets because I have had a dog and a cat that has had an allergic reaction to what was suspected to be flea products before and he didn't have to question anything about the products we were using....it was all part of our record and he was familiar with any possible reported side effects.

  3. Gorgeous kitty!  Shelters rarely bathe and groom cats in their care unless the cat is severely matted - then they'll shave it down.  Pease don't say they "didn't bother" to groom this cat.  Shelters vets and volunteers are too busy caring for all sick, injured and near death animals dumped with them to have a lot of time left for individual cat grooming.  If you want cats to all leave the shelter looking gorgeous then perhaps you can volunteer your time to groom them?

You shouldn't brush a longhaired cat - you should COMB it.  Brushes do little to remove the dead hairs of the undercoat and can pull out and break the top coat hairs.  Get a good quality steel-toothed comb and once you get the coat under control be sure to fully comb the cat at least every other day to keep it from matting.

Make sure the coat is fully free of mats before you bathe the cat.  There's lots of good cat shampoos on the market.  The one I use on my Persian is called Cardinal Long Hair Shampoo.  It's light on conditioners so it won't weigh down the cat's coat and it's low-sudsing so it rinses out easily.

  4. Go to your local pet store like PETCO or PETSMART and ask them. :]
