Need help finding a place....?

Question

I am getting a place with my boyfriend and two of our friends so we can live in-district for school...we make an average of $800 a month each, and the average rent for a 2 bedroom apartment or home in our area is $500-$800...we cannot decide if we should rent a home for privacy reasons, or an apartment simply because the rent is a little lower...what are some advantages and disadvantages to renting houses and apartments? Thx for your help!

It would be what ever you guys think you would be able to afford. Have you every tought about even looking in to buying a place cause sometimes that can be even cheaper.
