Question:

Need help finding an American Aria

Can anyone help me find a good american aria. I'm a Mezzo-Soprano (possibly dramatic soprano) with an easy high C. My voice teacher and myself are still trying to figure out which fach is more appropriate.

I'm applying to schools this fall, and I'm in need of 3-4 songs (I already have the others) but I'm still in search of a good aria by an american composer (in english). Any ideas? I'm also looking at Little Women the opera, anyone know any of Jo's arias? Thanks!

  1. Look at www.sheetmusicplus.com they have the world's largest music library and you should find something you like.

  2. Meg's aria, "Things change, Jo" might be a good choice. It is quite difficult musically and vocally. The role of Jo is lower, and her arias are also quite difficult.

There are two new American Aria anthologies. Get your hands on one or both of them, and there will be lots of choices

Also, Try "The New Forum for Classical Singers". Lots of singers hang out there!
