Mailbox magazine is a great source

  2. Start with toys and objects in the room.

Tell them what they are in english and then they will slowly learn what they are. Are you trying to teach them to read aswell if so you could label things in both Chinese and English - they may have some trouble with pronounciation at first as the way Chinese is spoken uses different tones etc than english.

You can then do songs, rhymes etc.

  3. I have been in your shoes.  I had to little girls (two year olds) who came to my class speaking no English (only Japanese).  When I tried to communicate with them in their language, they would just stare at me.  I finally stopped trying in their language and spoke only English to them.  It takes awhile (several weeks or more), but eventually they began speaking to me in English.

If you have access to a computer and Internet in the classroom you could try www.countryshcool.com/ylsig/.  There are also several translation sites that you could visit.  Be sure to click the free electronic translation button or else you pay for a human translator.

    Hope this helps.

  4. MONTESSORI

I would suggest you look for Montessori materials and set up as fast as you can a little primer for yourself on how to use them. There are wide range of materials to choose from but it also depends on your time, resources and how long you have those 30 kids for. Ideally 3 - 6 years old would be a great period to teach them writing and basic math in the Montessori environment and 30 is almost an ideal number of course it takes years and lots of cash to set up a Montessori environment but trying it and learning more about it will definitely help you out the next time you have 30 kids at that age. Work slowly at it, I guess you have a 1 year contract? If so you can make a difference in that time and prep materials. Good Luck.

  5. start with alpabets and rhymes. download alphabet songs and make them sing.
