Looking at English/Italian/ (European at a push) restaurants to dine at.

1st ... a nice place with a relaxed atmosphere to go on a Thurs night

2nd .... Somewhere a bit special (money no object) that has food, ambience & service that blows you away - that will be on a Fri night.

3rd ... again somewhere with a relaxed atmosphere and good food for a saturday night.

In or around the West End area is preferred but i don't mind somewhere a little further out if its for a really nice place.

Thanks for any tips folks, it's much appreciated

  1. TRY THE "RITZ"

  2. You need to look at www.squaremeal.co.uk

    http://www.locandalocatelli.com is very nice

  3. No thanks! (if that was meant as an offer)

All the advices I have had in the past in this regard has resulted in rotten food, poor service and exhorbitant prices.

    Gourmet articles are particularly misleading.

Yes (if it was a query)

Best advice is to keep away from tourist places.

Try long established reputable restaurants and learn from one's own experience or that of someone you know and can trust. We all have different tastes. My own favourites include:-

                      Madame Pruniers..........fish

                      Rules                     ..........meat

                      Chez Solange      ..........provencal

Sorry I can't comment on Italian: I don't like high carbohydrate foods like pasta.

Again be wary of food guides, they generally seem to have been composed by morons without palates and little experience in true 'dining'. I suspect that many rubbishy places are recommended on the basis of free meals/booze for the author.

  4. You can go to http://lacartes.com/ and see by yourself!!
