Tomorrow i have a 3 on 3 tournament, and the only teams im worried about are the relaly athletic players that jump out of the roof and are quick. My whole team are good at defending a shot. But how do you suggest we or I myself cud best defend a player thats very athletically gifted.

  1. ive played basketball for almost 10 years, high school level as well. best thing to do is play the person like he's better than you, force him to his off hand. if the guy is a righty, your right foot should be like 1-2 feet behind your left when in your defensive stance. arms out side to side, get the passing lanes. always play a little bit off of your man, if hes athletic like you say, he's gunna beat you off the dribble, so give him a little space, make him take a 15 foot jumper or so. nothings saying you cant contest it and make it hard on them, but theres no excuse for someone to beat you off the dribble time and time again. these tips have always worked for me, they should work for you too

  2. give the guy some space and when you think hes going to shoot the ball put a hand up quickly.

  3. Leave him some space. He'll blow by you if you stay too close. Keep your distance but make sure you are just close enough to contest his shot if he pulls up.

    good luck!

  4. ok practice guarding right now go u can give me a thumb up after or choose me as a best answer late right now go go go

  5. Those players are really the easiest to guard... I Just got out of High school and when I played, there are 3 things my coach told me to do.... Most of the time athletic players cant shoot very well, so for one, sag off of him enough to where you're tempting him to make a shot, but dont do this if he's anywhere past the free throw line, because then he can just bank it off the glass... 2....Whenever he starts to drive, bump him out of his position, he cant jump too high if he's off balance... and 3... This is the easiest route and lots of NBA players do this, all you have to do is grab his jersey or shirt or wuteva he's wearing.. Dont do it visibly, or dont like yank him, just keep a firm grip on it whenever he's close... If you do all that, you can really negate any athletic advantages he has on you...Its worked for me countless times I hope you have the same results
