Need help getting AT&T cordless phone to work!?

Question

AT&T 2nd hand cordless phone with 2 handsets. Put new batteries into both handsets and recharged. Cannot get dial tone in handsets, but the mothership answering machine/speaker phone has a dial tone and works fine! What am I doing wrong?

Go to the closes at&t store and they will set it up for you
