  1. For automobile insurance the best way to get a fantastic rate is do a rate comparison on car policies. Make sure that you compare similar options with the same limits, car type, zip code, etc so that all things are a good comparison.

What I most often recommend is an internet comparison quote at http://www.lowratetoday.com since they have lots of insurers and can give multiple quotes on car insurance polices.

  2. The best thing you can do to get cheap insurance is to be on your mom's insurance policy.  When I was 19 I bought a new car and tried to get my own insurance policy. The insurance company wanted to charge me $260 a month.  Then I called them about putting me on my mom's policy and they charged me only $150 a month, so I would definitely recommend getting on your mom's policy. You will probably save $50-$100 a month.

Also, if you are on your mom's policy, have her insure you as the primary driver on the cheapest car she owns, even if its not the one you are driving.  If you are in school, ask your insurance company if you qualify for the good student discount (B average or better).  Another thing you can ask about is the low mileage discount.  If you live in New York, you might do alot of walking and only drive a few thousand miles per year.  Some insurance companies will give you a cheaper rate if you drive less than 7,000 a year.

Another great thing to do is to shop around for a few different quotes.  You might find that some insurance companies give you a much lower rate than others.  The site below is a great resource because it allows you to compare quotes for all of the insurance companies in your area for free.

    Good Luck!

  3. Put it in your moms name. Place her as your Primary Driver. Only place you as Secondary driver. Your not going to get cheaper than that. You get discounts for being a student, so bring your transcript. Also, if you have a high gpa, you get a discount for that too.

  4. If you are more worried about insurance price - try this company - http://carquotes.fateback.com

I personally use their service – And as I know they have more affordable insurance policies for teens and first time drivers.

  5. Marc j, There are lots of websites where you can get an online quote. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Auto-Ins... It only takes about 5 minutes to do.

  6. try to get on your moms policy or else try http://www.COMPAREusINSURANCE.com and get a few quotes from some of the major insurance companies competing for your business

  7. Try using http://My-InsuranceSearch.com to compare car insurance rates for all the major providers in your area.
