As a detective with a local law enforcement department, you are one of the first to arrive at the scene of a drive by shooting, which resulted in the death of a teenage male. The shooting occurred at a corner gas station of a low income neighborhood. A number of witnesses approach you, including a child who was playing outside; a hearing impaired, visually shaken man who was pumping gas at the station; and a group of young gang members, upset by their friends murder.

  1. Talk to the officers on scene....  If you want reality....

  2. Shake down the gang members

Get a sign languge person to talk to deaf guy

Set down with young kid and talk to him,  he will probably be the most trustworthy

  3. You've set yourself two things to deal with. One is when you made him the first on the scene. I suggest having the scene already secured by the responding patrol officers. Otherwise, he's going to have to attend to two critical things at once, and that's messy for your narrative.

If, now, he's the first detective to arrive and this happens, he can leave the physical scene under control, making sure that the officers are instructed, depending on whether or not he knows they'll do it right, and deal with the witnesses. What he wants to accomplish is to (1) see that they stay around until he can talk to them, and (2) get them separated. He would likely recruit patrol officers to identify them and talk with them until he can get to each one. Even better would be to have them take them all down to the office and start hunting a signing interpreter. As to just what he will do, you'll have to decide on the kind of environment he's working in. In one place, he might be able to deal a heavy hand with the gangsters and give them little or no choice about riding down. In other's, he might have to be more subtle.
