  1. That's totally too many fish.  The 6 big goldfish alone is pushing it for that size tank.  You need to get rid of the feeder fish to someone who can use them as feeders.

  2. Canaster filter won't help at this point.  Your 60 should be fine in your 55.  While you have a number of fish in this tank, it is still possiable to keep them for a while.  Right now the issue is the white bump.  Is it a bump like a lump or is it asmall speck looking thing?  It could be an ulcer  need more info.  If he is selling his canister and it is rated for 50 gallon, it is a good deal.

Your water is cloudy due to a bacterial bloom.  31 goldfish in a 55 gallon is way too many fish, even if 25 of them are small.  That is a lot of fish waste.  Your biofilter is working over time to catch up.  Leave the water cloudy, the bacteria will soon grow and clear the water.

Test your water to ensure the ammonia and nitrites are not spiking and you will have to do this every few days.

More filtration is just more not really better.  You are pulling for a 90 gallon in a 55.

Test your water, if you wish buy the canister (if rated for a t the minimum 55) and get rid of some of the feeders.  Find someone with a pond and give them away.  Really, that is way too many fish.

  3. depending on how big the fish are, you may have too many fish in your tank. You also probably need at least two small filters and that canister filter MIGHT be a good buy, but depending on it's power and the size and he's used it for 5 years!!!  Here is some web sites that sells NEW canister filters!

  4. Well, I would personnally buy the canister filter, because those fish can produce TONS of waste, and chances are, your water is cloudy from Amonia, which is from there fecese or un-eater food. First, I would cut down on those feeder goldfish, maybe get it down to 10 or 15.

  6. YOu have way to many fish in your tank for one thing. The 6 big goldfish as long as they are the fancy type would be fine. But the 25 feeder goldfish are a concern. I don't know if you are completely aware or not but these fish can easily grow over a foot. You are easily going to need over an 100 gallon tank and prolly more like a 300 gallon tank with such a large amount of fish.

I would buy the canister filter that is a deal, plus you are going to need it. I would also buy 2 HOB filter if you do not plan on getting rid of any of these fish.
