Question:

Need help identifying plant?

This plant only blooms at night and supposedly comes from Brazil. It takes up to 2 hours for the bloom to open and when it's fully open it dies.(Bloom looks kinda spiky) Does anyone know what kind of plant this is? Any help would be great, Thank you! :)

  1. Sounds like the "Nightblooming Cereus", Epyphyllum oxypetalum.  I have one of these and it is in bud now.  The flowers are huge in bloom and very fragrant.  Enjoy.


  2. definately a night blooming cerus. are the blooms also fragrant? night blooming cerus are fragrant. also the leaves are pretty ugly, but it has large spiky blooms that only last 2-3 hours and bloom only at  night

  3. Maybe epiphyllum cacti, they are jungle cactus that bloom at night and have huge, beautiful flowers that come in many colors.  The cacti themselves look rather strappy and longish.  They rarely last over a day, unfortunately.

    Brugmansia & daturas also are tropical, can be slow to open, have long, trumpet like flowers often sporting long spikes.  They are night bloomers and often only last a day or two.
