Question:

Need help making or buying a 50Hz High Pass filter for my car!

The front two speakers in my car only have a frequency range down to 50Hz, as a result there is severe distortion and "smacking" of the speaker cone when the signal drops below 50Hz. I would like to make a high pass filter to stop the signal going outside the range of the speaker as the headunit has a better freq range than the speaker. The highest range is 23kHz so this isn't a problem.

Many thanks

Mike

  1. I wouldn't go down as far as 50 hz. A crossover doesn't just cut off the frequencies below the set point. There is a roll off. In most cases it's between 12 and 24 decibels per octave. Depending on the size of the speaker, and i'm just spitballing here, The frequency cut off will have to change.

    These will work well for a 6 1/2" or 5 1/4" speaker. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/I...

4" or smaller, use these. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/I...
