Ok today I had a track meet and it is my first time. I ran the 800m and got a 3:00. I at first ran too fast and got tired after 300m. I just jog slowly and got 7th place out of 8 people. I want to know how could I improve me time? I am only a 8th GRADER. I need help on what to do. I do eat healthy but how do I train for it. I ran a mile around my neighborhood almost everyday but slow pace. How could I run fast and keep up the endurance??

  1. Preparation outside practice:

You need to combine strength training with cardio to see optimum results in your performance. Do pushups, crunches, lifts, etc.; you can find variations of such strength exercises online. Variety is beneficial; it will truly challenge your body and take it to limits it has never reached.

    800m on race day:

Everyone paces oneself differently. If you're allowed to cut in right after the gun goes off, make sure you get a good start; don't let anyone elbow you in an attempt to push you back. If anything, elbow others:) Start out at a fast jog, and take it up a notch after the 200 mark. After your first 400, just hang in there; try not to slow down. When you come to your last straightaway, give it all you've got left. There's no one way to run for everybody; each person has his/her strengths and weaknesses. Try not to let yourself get psyched out. One saying I like to run through my head is "Pain is weakness leaving the body". It's a saying by the Marines, and it's great to think about when you're feeling mentally and/or physically exhausted during a race. Good luck!:)

  2. You need to start off good, and at a harder pace every day. You need to tell yourself, just a bit more, just a bit more. Practice practice practice. 1 mile = 1500 meters, so its close to 800 meters, so just practice really hard. Another good idea is to get a speed chute. Its like a parachute, and you attach it on your back, and it creates drag. Its on the nike comercial (nike sparq).

  3. okay if you really want to improve just 800 times, this workout seems crazy but effective. i ran a 2:04 using it.

okay warmup, do a little core workouts(abs, lunges, etc...)

then do 4x400 timed laps at about 1:40 just to get warm.

then run twenty 200m sprints at 35-40 seconds.

NEVER do this the day before a race, its a really hard workout. But it is quite effective.

  4. I'm an 8th grader too, so i know how u feel and what you're talkin about. My PR is 2:25. I have only ran the 800 once, but i normaly do the 400 in meets. But just get a good start and stay in the pack.Pace your self but still keep pushing.Never let a guy get more than about 80 meters ahead of you, then you won't be able to catch him. On the 2nd lap you deffinitely got to pick up.When you get to the 200-150 mark go all out.You will surely catch some one.As for training if your on a track, practice 1000s.If not just jog for as long as u can. That will build your endurance. Good Luck.

  5. 800 is a hard race because it's middle distance, but it's almost become a sprinting event. I would just practice getting your stamina up and practice running 800s on a track.
