  1. Then let's reword the question into an example.

Let's assume that a certain part of where you live was hit by an unusual weather front. Instead of, lets say, a clear, sunny day like you would expect, you get rained upon and it's freezing outside. How would you respond to this to keep yourself comfortable? You would dress warm and use an umbrella, wouldn't you? Maybe you would just stay inside altogether.

This is an example of a response that you would take to maintain homeostasis.

Now lets try defining the actual question instead of just an example. A response is anything you do because of a circumstance. When an environmental change happens, you respond to the change. It wants to know how we respond to maintain homeostasis. Homeostasis, in essence, is how we remain comfortable instead of too hot, cold, hungry, etc.

So, if something happens in the environment, how would a human respond to remain comfortable?

  2. Homeostasis ( "staying the same"), is a function vital to all life, but is expressed differently by different animals, and involves a lifeforms maintain a condition inside of its body even if the environment around it tries to change that.

For people, this may be represented by sweating. Being mammals, we need a constant internal body temperature, so when we are exposed to cold or hot, our body has to work to make sure the inside of our bodies stay the same temperature despite the outside air. By sweating, you cause water to evaporate off the surface of your skin and absorb heat from your skin, cooling your body. This is an example of human homeostasis. An animal's fur coat is annother example, keeping it insulated in winter. Every cell has a cell membrane or cell wall to protect it's internal structure, another example of homeostasis on a cellular level.

  3. Homeostasis roughly means to be in balance. It's the body's way of maintaining the status quo. An example of an environmental change is when you are exposed to hot weather. As your body begins to heat up you begin to sweat. Which cools your body. Returning it to the status quo .
