Hello everyone, My situation is simple - I'm on street, and have enough money only to afford fresh fruits and vegetables and oats and some nuts. I have no kitchen, only one cup where to have hot water for an oatmeal and a backpack where to store some food. I exercise pretty much, spend lot of time in the sun and do lot of swimming and walking. For 20 days I've been eating only oatmeal once or twice a day, mixed with some nuts and raisins, and some fruits, I'm doing very well but because of my lack of knowledge I'm not sure if it is healthy for me enough, because I really want to stay healthy. And I'm completely not sure about which and how many fruits, vegetables and nuts to eat to be balanced, and that is the reason I'm seeking help on what exactly to eat. I can spend like 1.5 eiro a day. (for example pack of 1kg of oats costs 3 eiros, coconut 1 eiro, apple 15 cents). I would be very grateful for an advice! (Also, after like two or three weeks I will have an oportunity to boil beans and stuff like that, so vegetarian recipes are welcome).

  1. you seem to have had enough money to buy a laptop. But whatever, eating fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, and lots of nuts will give you everything, except b12. It can be found in spirulina which is a b12 rich algae. Since you could buy a computer I bet you'll be able to afford  spirulina tablets.

  2. For a balanced diet, you need to eat about 6 servings of grains, 4-5 servings of fruits/vegetables, 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of cooked beans, handful of nuts,  and one Tablespoon of oil per day.

Half a cup of cooked oatmeal is one serving.

When you start eating about one cup of cooked beans per day, you will be fine.

  3. I agree with Jordan.Last year, I was in UK,USA for 3 months and lived on oatmeal with nuts (pine nuts),raisins, coconut etc.Plus fruits like apple, bananas etc and I was stronger.

  4. try to incorporate more leafy greens and more vegetables.  Do you have access to a Farmer's Market?  they usually have fresh produce at reasonable prices.   Buy little at  a time so you don't have to worry about it spoiling.  vegetables like brocolli and peppers and cucumbers last quite a while unrefrigerated.  I'm interested what your situation is..if you are backpacking, are you journaling also?
