Need help on burning a DVD please. Anyone can help me?

I have Prison Break (season 3) in .AVI format, I also have subtitles (.srt)

I used DVD Flick and did all the steps then hit "Create DVD" and started doing some stuff, then said "project complete", but it was just that, it didn't burn my DVD.

What I need to know what's the format gotta use to burn my DVD so that it can be played in any home DVD.

And if there's any program better than DVD Flick (free please) or if there's still an option to finnish up my DVD with that program.
