Need help on college advice regarding industrial design.?

Question

My friend is going to Japan for college this year. He plans to be an industrial designer in the future. The situation is that the colleges he could attend don't offer Bachelor's Degrees on Industrial Design. As he won't give up his dream, he will probably get his Master's degree in the states(RISD's Master's Degree on industrial design would probably be the one and I believe he could get it.)

The problem is that what he should study for his Bachelor's Degree

(for it is not likely for him to get an Bachelor's Degree on Industrial Design in Japan)?

Please help.

I duno never been to japan.  But he could work on some other design masters and then eventually go into industrial design later in life.
