Need help on conversions please?

if you were offered an ounce of gold...would you perfer it in English ounce or an apothecaries ounce? and Y?

I know that 1pound=12 ounces in apoth. and 16 ounces= 1pound in english,,but im still a little confused.

  1. I believe you would want an apothecaries ounce.  

    The two old British systems of measurement were the apothecaries measurement and the avoirdupois measurement.  I assume that the English measurement you are asking about is the avoirdupois measurement.  The avoirdupois pound is the pound we use today, the one with 16 ounces to it.

    The ounce avoirdupois is 28.3495 g, 1/16 lb, or 437.5 gr. The apothecaries’ ounce is 31.103 g, 1/12 lb, or 480 gr.
