Need help on my SONY DVPNS585P DVD Player?

I have had this dvd player for a while now and have always had problems for it, can anyone tell me if theres some sort of magic button on it or something i can do to make it do what i want it to. I cannot play DVD-R (which it promised and it sprogressive whatever that is....?)or any region other than 2 on it, no hacks work on it. Just before i replace it or throw it out of the window. help.....?

Well if you live in region 2 (Europe; Western Asia; Egypt, Japan, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland; British overseas territories, French overseas territories; Greenland; United Kingdom) then you must record your DVD-R as a region 2 recording to get it to play back in that player.

"Hacking" the player to be "region-free" might work, but you are probably better off buying one that has already been hacked if you want it to work reliably. I guess if you are going to throw it away, then you may as well try the hack, if you break the player then you still haven't lost anything since it was headed for the trash anyway.
