  1. There are many things to consider as you choose your strings. I find that unless you are at a highly competitive level, the type of strings don't seem to matter as much, just any synthetic should be fine, you don't need natural gut ofcourse.

As for the guage(thickness of the strings), generally, the thinner the string, the better the performance, but at the same time, they will break faster. For example, the thinner 16 and 17 gauge strings are more lively and elastic than the thicker 15 or 15L. Thin strings are also known for better performance in creating spin. Also, if you are known to break strings often, you might want to consider a thicker guage, the thinner the string, the sooner they will break.

If you're not sure, or have never bought strings before, try the thinner ones first, if they break too quickly, then you can consider using a thicker guage.

As for tensions, it will depend on your play style and also the racket. You will have to try out several different tensions to find the right one that fits. But to start you out, I'll tell you generally that with higher tensions (maybe 60-65 and up) you will have less feel for the delicate touch shots like drop shots. This is more for aggresive baseliners with fast swings. Lower tensions (maybe 45 to 55) will give you the extra feel and finesse, but with harder swings, the ball with fly father and a bit unpredictably. So generally, the harder you swing, the higher the tension. Start anywhere between 50 to 60, and try out different tensions to find the one right for you.

    Hope that helps!!! =)

  2. Depends what you want.  Are you a snapper?  I'm a snapper so I get 15 gauge at 55#

  3. I would go for 55lbs and use good gut strings.  Dont complicate it.  You can have your strings tightened or loosened later if you want.
