OK, I have a Sony HVR-HD1000U Camcorder. It does not have Phantom power. I was trying to figure out what shotgun mic and XLR converter I would need to work with my camera. I was thinking about the Rode NTG-2 Shotgun mic and the XLR-BP Basic. Would that work with my camera? Thanks for any help!

  1. Short version:

"Will the RODE NTG2 work with the XLR-BP basic?" Yes.

    Long version:

I've used a BeachTek DXA-6 for a couple of years

    http://beachtek.com/prod.html

and recently got a juicedLink CX321

    http://juicedlink.com/

I have used a Sennheiser and Audio Technica shotgun mics - and currently own (and use) a NRG Research SA-568 and Audio Technica AT-825 (among a couple of lavs and some wire and wireless SM-58 handhelds)...

Since the Studio1 XLR-BP Basic does not allow Line/Mic switching and cannot provide Phantom power, it would immediately fall off my short list. Check into the juicedLink CX211 - no Phantom Power, but at least is Line/Mic switchable.
