Question:

Need help opening battery cover on old camera?

I have an old Praktica super TL camera that hasn't been used in a few years, and I can't seem to open the cover of the power source to change the battery. I found a coin that fits perfectly to unscrew it, but no matter how hard I try I can't get it to open, it just won't budge

Any advice?

  1. It may be that the battery dissolved and the toxic chemistry has sealed the covers threads to the camera body threads.  Try using a slurry of baking soda and water and using a "Q-tip" to apply it around the threads and let it bubble until it quits ... If after a few attempts the cover will not unscrew, then take it to a camera repair shop and let them get the top off.  You will need a new battery for the meter.

  2. Go to your local hardware store and get a can of Liquid Wrench. It's a penetrating oil that will help loosen the cap.
