Need help planning a Jamaican themed party.?

I'm having a party for 25-30 people and want a jamaican theme. It will be outdoors at our cabin on a lake. I would love to hear some unique ideas and possibly food and drink recipes.

  1. I would go with Thickice.  Her recipes sounds soooo goooood.


  2. def. Jerk chicken, or a blackened chicken. Side with mango chutney (can get at larger grocery stores). Also bananas foster for dessert.

  3. I don't have any recipes for you...

    But for food and drink I would serve margaritas, pina coladas, bahama mama's - anything fruity and tropical.

    Here are some decorating ideas though and a link to some more ideas for a Margaritaville party...but you may be able to use some their suggestions.

    Decorate in tropical colors: hot pink, lime green, yellow, turquoise, and orange, Raffia table skirting, Seashells, Fish Nets, Parrots, Palm Trees (real, inflatable, or made from butcher paper), Hibiscus flowers and orchids, Fresh Fruit (pineapples, coconuts, bananas), Tiki Torches, Flowers, and pirate stuff.

  5. Get balloons and streamers the colors of the Jamaican flag.  Play Reggae music and google Caribbean recipes.

    *Music- Bob Marley. Shaggy,Sean Paul, Blakc Uhuru, Beenie Man, Damian Marley, Bounty killer, Burning Spear.

    Food-

    *Mango Chutney:

    4 cups under ripe mangoes (diced)

    1 cup raisins

    1 cup dates, chopped

    4 oz green ginger, chopped

    1 teaspoon mustard seed

    4 cups sugar

    2 oz salt

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    2 hot peppers, chopped

    4 cups red wine vinegar

    1/2 lb. onions, chopped

    Procedure:

    1.  Add fruit and peppers to vinegar and allow to steep until the next day.  2.  To Mangoes, add sugar, ginger, garlic, onions and other seasonings.  3.  Boil all ingredients together gently until Chutney is thick and brown.

    Carribean Grilled Chicken

    ¾ cup vegetable oil

    Juice of 3 limes

    6 cloves garlic, chopped

    1½ tsp. ground black pepper

    1 tsp. Fiery Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce

    2 tsp. oregano

    1½ tbs. cilantro

    3 pounds boneless chicken breast

    Preparation:

    Combine the oil, juice, and seasonings.  Place the chicken in a glass or ceramic dish, pour the marinade over the chicken, and cover.  Marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours.  Grill the b*****s for about 12 minutes on each side.

    Curried Fish Steaks

    3 tablespoons oil or fat

    2 tablespoons chopped onion

    1 clove of garlic

    2 tablespoons curry powder

    1 cup water or coconut milk

    A little lime juice

    Piece of green mango

    Salt to taste

    1 1/2 lb. prepared fish steaks

    Method:

    Heat the oil, add the onion and garlic and fry them lightly but do not brown. Add the curry powder, stir and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Add water or coconut milk, lime juice and mango, and cook until thick. Put in fish and cook gently until tender. Do not stir fish, but prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan, the pan may be moved gently backward and forward.

    Drinks

    Planter's Punch

    Juice of 1 Lime

    Juice of 1/2 Lemon

    Juice of 1/2 Orange

    1 tsp Pineapple Juice

    2 oz Light Rum

    1 oz Jamaica Rum

    2 dash Triple Sec

    1 dash Grenadine

    Pour first 5 ingredients into collins glass filled with ice. Stir until glass is frosted. Add Jamaica rum, stir, and top with Triple Sec and grenadine. Decorate with slices orange, lemon, pineapple, a cherry, and a sprig of mint dipped in powdered sugar. Serve with a straw.

    A Day at the Beach

    1 oz Coconut Rum

    1/2 oz Amaretto

    4 oz Orange Juice

    1/2 oz Grenadine

    Shake rum, amaretto, and orange juice with ice and pour into a highball glass over ice. Top with grenadine and garnish with a pineapple wedge and a strawberry.
