  1. I have 3 grandkids under 4-1/2, so we have alot of toddler birthdays:)  My daughter always does a family BBQ for the first birthday, but then the others are usually an assortment of cheese (kids) and other topping (adults) pizzas... veggie/dip platter ... fruit platter ... crackers & cheese ... dips & chips ... cookie platter and a cupcake cake.  I think she had aa 6-foot submarine sandwich once, but the pizzas work out much better.....

  2. make cold sandwich's with some potato salad some macaroni salad maybe some deviled eggs its all pretty easy to make you could get some pizza

  3. Make a variety of small cold sandwiches, tomato salad, chips etc.

  4. Seeing as there are 50 people there, I am assuming most will be adults with their small children.  I would set up a very long, low height buffet table and have a pizza making party.  My niece is 3 and loves to cook!!  Everyone could bring a plain white apron and decorate with stamps at the begining of the party because stamps tend to dry very fast. Then have some games and what not, then let the kids wear their new home-made aprons and make pizza with the help of all the parents!  You could use pita bread for less mess (no flour) and you could even let kids get in gorups to make a pizza to save room in your oven!

  5. A buffet/make-your-own Mexican dinner could be fun.  Start with basic wrappers: hard/soft taco shells, tortillas.  Then, have a selection of sauteed meats and veggies (like chicken, beef, shrimp, mushrooms, onions, sweet peppers).  Add some shredded lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream and guacamole.  Sides could be re-fried beans and/or rice.  Once everything is cooked and/or cut, there would be very little work besides people lining up and making their perfect plate.

  6. have hotdogs with different flavored chips for the sides.  You can go to subway and have a 6 foot sub made and just have it cut the sizes you need.  You could make up chicken finger baskets with fries .  Have it ready when everyone gets there.
