  1. You might need a allge eater to eat the allge of the glass.

  2. There are these little magnetic cleaner things you can get. They clean they inside of the glass because they magnet bit inside they take has a cloth side and the other piece, which you keep on the outside of the tank attracts it so when you move it, the one inside the tank moves with it and cleans the glass. They can be pretty handy.

  3. A lot depends on what kind of fish you are planning to get for your daughter.  If you're going to go with tropical fish you'll need a heater.  You can skip the heater is you intend to keep all coldwater fish, but that really limits the kind of fish you can get.  There are always goldfish, but they take a lot of room and are very dirty fish, which means a lot of tank cleaning and the filter had better be a very good one.  Some other coldwater fish are white cloud minnows and rose red or fathead minnows.  Purchasing a heater means you can get tropical fish which includes a much wider variety of fish of various colors and sizes.

Make sure you research any fish before you buy it so you don't end up buying your daughter some cute little 1" fish that is going to end up growing to be 20" long and need a 75 gallon tank or have to go back to the store and break her heart.  Watch out for convict cichlids and livebearers (guppies, mollies, platies & swordtails).  Stick to males unless you want to end up with hundreds of fish fry and the never ending need for more tanks to house your madly breeding fish!  Also read up on the nitrogen cycle in a fish tank so that you don't end up with New Tank Syndrome killing all your fish.  Cycling your tank before you put the fish in it is so much easier and less stressful for both you and the fish!  Check out the links below for more help on setting up a new tank, cycling your tank and adding new fish properly to your tank.

  4. You'll need a heater for tropical fish set to 78-80 degrees F.

Any fish safe decorations you can add and plants, live or fake your choice for yours and the fish's benefit.

Fish store personel are no help. They are there to sell a product and that's it.

You will need to cycle the fish tank by adding one zebra danio (preferred cycling fish) or using any other source of ammonia, like liquid ammonia or I've heard a raw cocktail shrimp, and I've heard simply feeding the tank as if there were fish in there.

All this you will have to do before you add your actual tank fish or they will die.

You'll need test kits for ammonia and Ph, nitrates/nitrites these will be essential while the tank is cycling if you choose to add fish, in order to keep the levels from getting too high while the tank sets up it's beneficial bacteria.

It's actually cheaper to just buy the kit, comes with tank, light filter heater and small food and water conditioners for a pretty good price.

They sell them at walmart for pretty cheap.

Please dont bother buying a 5 gallon setup. It's not worth the time.

Gravel if that's what you choose, you'll need two-three inches sloped up the back and 3/4-inch in the front, for an unplanted (not live) tank.

You'll need sufficient filter media to house your good bacteria there's alot of choices you can add, foam, floss, porous stones crushed or rings. Check out the filter section at your petsmart. I like to read up on what i want before I go so i Dont have to depend on them to sell me what I need.

But after you get your tank cycled you can add fish and change the water every month or two and you'll be good.

You'll need to add conditioners to take out the chlorine if you have city water before you put it in your tank or while your putting it in your tank. Every time you add water.

But like I said, i suggest the kit it comes with all you need for cheaper than you can buy it by the peice. And it will all fit together, lol.

  5. it depends on how big the tank is but i have a ten gallon tank with two goldfish and i have an indoor and out door filter and you have to have cleaning supplies like tools for cleaning the sides of the tank, tools for cleaning out the dirty water and you need a bucket to put the dirty water in and to toss that water later. if you have gold fish you need clorine remover because they wouldn't live

well thats all i know of i hoped i helped but you can go to other pet stores

  6. This may or may not help or it may be critical.Get the glass cut precisedly before assembling, use silicon sealer to glue it in place, and if at all possible build a outside frame for it. Another consiteration is IF it's very big the increase in weight may make it so heavy you will need added supports under the floor you  put it on or when it's filled it,it may self destruct ruining it and the room you have it in.Good luck.

  7. You may want to get a starter kit, But if they are tropical, you for sure need a heater to maintain the temperaturee in the winter.  You also will need ick treatment algae treatment and a dechlor treatment to start out with.  You may also want to get a ph tester and modifier.  Hope this helps!

  8. You will most likely need a heater.

You can get a strip light if you want.

Test strips to test the nitrite, nitrates, and ammonia levels.

    Tester for the PH level.

    Need food.

    Need fish (obviously).

If you get live-bearers (mollies, guppies, platies, swordtails) and you want to keep the fry (baby fish) you will need a net or plastic breeder box. It goes inside your original tank and holds the fry.

Other than that you are set.

    Good luck!
