Hi there,

I need help to plan a trip tomorrow from Ciampino airport to the Port in Civitavecchia.

I've been told a taxi costs approximately 120 Euros.

But I think I can do it cheaper.

I will be arriving at Ciampino airport at 11am (Friday). Please can someone help me plan a specific route by train?

I know I may need to get a bus/coach to the train station from the airport.

If anyone can help as the timetables that I've seen are confusing that would be great!

Many thanks

  1. Take the Terravision Shuttle (www.terravision.it) from Ciampino Airport to Rome's Termini Station. From Termini take a train to Civitavecchia. The train takes 45 minutes to an hour and 20 minutes, depending on which train you take. There are regular departures and the train ride is cheap. View train schedules and fares online at http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. Don't buy your tickets online - if your flight is late you may not make your train. At the train station there are "Fast Ticket" machines that are self service and take credit cards.

  2. You can take a bus to:

termini train station (private company, less than 10eu, fast and no stop), from there take a train to civitavecchia. See below.

metro stop (1eu,quite fast since the stop is near. Is a blue bus, stops right in front of the exit, passes about once every 20mins), then take METRO A direction TERMINI (is the only one you can take since your metro stop, ANAGNINA, is the end of the line),it will take about 30mins.

    From termini station:

    trains departs at 12:08

                                  12:38

                                  13:08

                                   13:38

and so on, 1 evey 30 mins until 17, then is very 20 mins.

you can check and buy online tickets at www.trenitalia.it tickets bought for treni regionali (you see a R near the train nr) are valid for every train that goes to civitavecchia, not only for the one you are buying, very convenient if you loose the train since you can get next one without buying a new ticket. Validate the ticket before boarding.

Total cost 9eu with blue bus and metro, around 15 with private bus.

    Time is about 2 hrs.

  3. Try taking the bus

  4. do you mean cittavecchia?

i haven't been but i regularly land in ciampino so i know you can get to city centre dirt cheap. when you come out of arrivals, there is a big pink and purple terravision bus to city centre for €8 or you can use one of the 3 white ones lined up right in front of you. they are govt buses, i think schiaffini is the name on them but not sure. one goes to termini for €5 or the best way to do it is get the one to anagnina for €1 plus €1 for a large suitcase. this is where the buses servicing the area around frosinone stop. it is also the first/last stop on one of the metro lines. a 70c ticket will get you an hour on the metro, which is more than enough time to get to termini, the main station in centre of rome. then get a train to cittavecchia. even if you get to the train station in ciampino, you will still have to change in termini so it's cheaper to just go to anagnina and get metro. the buses to anagnina run every half hour or so and sometimes they dont even charge for the suitcase so you can get to the termini for €1.70 which is good value. you will definitely be able to get a train from there to cittavecchia but as i said, i haven't been, so don't know how much or how long the journey is.

edit - excuse me there is a place called civitavecchia and there is a direct train from termini
