i have to write an analytical essay on the book called "roots" but ive never written one before.....especially not on a book like this one.....now ive read the book and i wud like to no if anyone can write like a thesis statement....to give me an idea on how im supposed to write an analytical essay to roots..

"The Saga of an American Family became a sensation immediately after its publication in 1976. It was adapted into a popular miniseries, and became one of the most-watched television programs in American history. The second site is the Amazon site which has several reviews of the book.  Take a look at the first sentences of these reviews to get some more idea. Example:"Presenting the life of the captured and enslaved African Kunte Kinte and his American descendants as representative ancestors for contemporary African-Americans, Haley initiated a dialogue on race in America not experienced since the writing of UNCLE TOMS CABIN."

What will the focus of your paper be?  To be honest , when I couldn't figure out a topic, I would write my  thoughts on note cards, sometimes a paragraph or several related sentences--sometimes just a word to indicate topic.  Then I would spread out the note cards and put them into order.  Some are interesting, but just don't fit.  Others will fall into a pattern which will allow me to write the topic paragraph leading to the examples or arguments  I have on the note cards. Next, I write a summary paragraph , then use transition words and flesh out the paragraphs.  Revise, edit and produce final copy.
