First time mounting a scope. I was putting a warne picatinny rail base on my rem 700 long action, the base came with 4 screws. 2 were short and 2 were taller. I did i in this order, Tall in the very front, then short. Then in the back I did short and then Tall in teh very back end. Is this right? or are both the tall supposed to go in the front and short in the back or vice versa? I applied loctite about an hour ago so hopefully i can get an answer before it dries. I torqued them down to 30 inch pound, the 3rd one from the muzzle end doesn't tighten, keeps spinning, all the other ones tightened.

  1. Use both long screws in the front, and both short screws in the rear.

  2. Both short screws go in the front base. If you put a long s***w in the front base it will extend into the slot for the locking lug on the bolt and you will not be able to open or close the bolt. The short one in the back will not tighten because it is not long enough to engage the threads in the receiver. Usually they are long enough to engage and tighten a couple of turns.  If you used red loctite and it has already dried then you will need to use a propane torch to heat the s***w untill the loctite breaks down. You will know when that happens because it will smoke alot and smell real bad.
