Question:

Need help setting up a Denon amp with a Denon subwoofer?

I recently purchased a Denon AVC2308 here in Japan which is basically the same as a AVR2308 as far as I can tell. I setup a 5.0 speaker system with no trouble, however I purchased a denon subwoofer yesterday and brought it home to enjoy some deep bass only to run into trouble setting it up.

I connected the supplied cable to the 'pre out' on the back of the amp and then into the 'Line in' on the subwoofer and proceeded to try the auto config setup for my speakers. I was getting no sound at all from my sub and the auto config stated I did not have a subwoofer present. After trying all the switches on the back of the subwoofer(phase normal/(reverse?)) I tried moving the cable from 'Line in' to the 'Line out' and when I did this the sub vibrated with feedback. After that I ran the auto setup again and the system played bass through the sub and configured it correctly.

My problem now is that when I listen to music or watch movies the sub does not work. I tested it using the tone menu on the amp and it works. I am really at a loss as to how to proceed and why I need to plug the cable into 'Line out' rather than the standard 'Line in'.

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated. If you need any further details I will try to provide them asap, however I am currently at work.

Cheers

Kevin

  1. Your initial setting should be correct. Connect one end of the cable to "Pre-out - SW" at the back of the receiver and then connect the other end to the Line IN of the subwoofer. Line out on the subwoofer should be connected to another subwoofer and not to the pre-out of the receiver.

Is the subwoofer volume turned to say half way?

Try setting up the speaker using the "Manual Set-Up. It could be that the subwoofer turned off when you connect the cable to the Line out of the sub.
