I hate summer math packets >.>

Anyway..

Driving her car at 60mph, jane can cover a certain distance in 36 minutes less than when she drives at 50mph. Find the distance that she can cover.

Oh and this one as well

The measure of an angle is 3 times it's supplement. Find the angles.

  1. First one....

    d = r*t

    The distance is the same in each so you can set the equations equal to one another and solve.

    60(x - 0.6) = 50x

    60x - 36 = 50x

    10x = 36

    x = 3.6 hours which is actually three hours and 36 minutes.

    Check it --

    3.6 * 50 = 180 miles

    3 * 60 (take off the 36 minutes) = 180 miles

    Second one....

    First angle plus second angle is 180.

    x + 3x = 180

    4x = 180

    x = 45

    and the other angle must be three times that which is 135.  Add those together and you get 180!
