Need help teaching my 3 year old to swim.?

Question

I take my daughter to the pool frequently and I'm either carrying her or she plays on the steps. Any advice on how to teach her to swim or floaties that have worked from first hand experience. And yes I know i could put her in swim lessons but I'd like to teach her on my own. Thanks :-)

floties work well.  my daughter is 4 and swims by herself with floties.  What really helped is swimming lessons.  The best ones are where parents watch, not participate so the child dosn't pick up on the parents fear.  go to the local YMCA or pool, and they'll have info on classes and times.  I prefer our YMCA, because they had more time, and it was year round.
