Need help to buy a camcoder?

I need to buy a camcoder. My budjet is around 300$. I heared MiniDV gives a better quality videos and also it is low price. I just need this to use this mostly when I go out on trips or within home functions. Can anyone suggest what camcoder models best suits for me..?
