  1. Since you don't have to choose a major right away, you can take some time to research. Make an appointment with your career counselor at college to take a test (I think it's called aptitude) to see what you would be good at based on your personality. Go through the course lists for different majors and see what interests you. For example, if you like math, check majors that have a lot of math classes (e.g. accounting). Are you planning on getting a Bachelor's? If so, start out at a community college and get an AS or an AA. Those majors can be fully transferred to a 4-year college (provided you finish your education in the same state), and you can then choose a specialty. If you get a marketing major at a 2-year college, for example, chances are not all classes will be transferred and you have to take extra courses. Regardless, make sure you make that appointment with a career counselor and your DSO (designated school official; the person responsible for your I-20 form).

  2. I had trouble choosing a major myself. I simply made a list of things that I wanted in my ideal job. I then compared it to the school I wanted to attend. Then I made a list of potential jobs that I could find despite where I decided to live. I found that I wanted to be able to find a job using my education. Teaching is a career with many options and areas in which to work. I love it and have never regretted it.
