Need help using MP3 player!!!?

Question

I just bought a SanDisk mp3 player and m following all the instructions but it wont turn on. I have it plugged into the computer by the usb cord but it wont come on. And there is a disk that came with it and im trying to run it on my computer but its saying that another program needs updates before i can do it and i dont really know that much about technology so i dont know how to do that. So i was wondering if anybody can please help me? I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much!

it won't come on if you plug it into the computer and u usually have to press and hold the play button to get it to work

If you plugged it in right, then the unit should turn on and my computer would detect it as a portable/removable device. If it doesn't then there is something wrong with the port/cable/player. Also, the updates should just be click to update and it does it by itself.
