  1. Red and black go together at the fan and are wired to the black wire from the ceiling.White goes to white.Green goes to green. The fan is defective if wired this way and still won't work.

  2. I just installed a ceiling fan in my living room with the same setup.

House ground (bare copper in my case) to fan bracket/box s***w (which is a green colored s***w,) on this same s***w is the fan's ground (green wire,) so all grounds are connected through the fan's ground s***w.

House white (common wire) connected to fan white.

House black (hot) to fan black and blue wires (my blue is the same as your fan's red.)  I made it a point to "thread" the fan black and blue (your red wire) together, then tightly twist that to the house black, then put the wire nut (s***w-type twisting connector) on it tightly.

I believe in overdoing things, so I electrical taped over the wire nuts and a few inches down the wires to bind them together.

I suspect something might be wrong with the connection (loose?) or the fan itself then.

As a suggestion, I would try that, then if the fan still doesn't work, just wire the fan (red) wire to the black (not the light portion) to test if the fan works.

  3. You received the correct answer already from the master electrician response.
